Teach Dog to Sit

Most new dog owners start out with wanting to teach dog to sit, and although this is a useful command, you must first make sure that your dag masters his name. When training a dog to sit down a command, you should first make sue that you are in an environment that the dog is familiar with and wont be that distracted by.

Make sure you have your dog’s favorite treats readily available, as this will be the reward along with plenty of compliments.

Now lets take the drill step by step.

1. Stand in front of your dog on the floor.
2. Let the dog know that you have a treat in your hand.
3. Keep the hand with the treat near the dogs face, while using your free hand to press down on the lower back region of the dog.
4. The dog will be fully focused with the treat in your hand and his instincts will make him sit down due to the pressure on the back.
5. As the dog sits down you praise him in a kind and positive voice while giving him the treat.
6. Repeat this training 6 times and than let the dog be for an hour or so.

You can do this exercise up to 8 times each day, but do not try to do it any more or you might risk that the dog will get bored with you and the training. Keep this up until the dog no longer needs your help to sit down, and then move on the training to different locations to up the difficulty level. When you feel for it you can begin to stop using treats and rely on just praising the dog.

Using this method to teach dog to come will normally yield the desired result within a week or two.

There are some other ways to teach dog to sit, but I have had good results with this methods and it is easy to follow and makes use of the two biggest parts of a dog’s brain, its instincts and the smell sense center of the brain which is the biggest part of a dogs brain.
